The kids are still loving their time in the pool and getting more brave as time goes on. Derek has some video of the last couple of weeks and hopefully we can get that edited and posted soon. The highs here are going to be in the 110-115 range for the next week or so but when you're in the pool it actually can feel cool outside for a brief moment. The water temperature is about 82... and it is not a heated pool. I was told that the temperature of the water in your pool averages about the low of the previous number of nights... what does that tell you?? Well, no nice cool nights here for the next few months! We go swimming in the morning and it feels good :).

Christopher Creek
For the past three days, we have been enjoying some R&R in Christopher Creek, AZ (about 2 hours north of Phoenix). We had great fun exploring, playing games, doing puzzles, observing deer, reading and trying to capture bugs. Here are a few pictures of our journey and one video clip at the infamous "Waterfall Cliffs".

Our School Year
We finished our first year of semi-formal homeschooling this year. Sort of. We're continuing on a slower pace over the summer because it is basically fundamentals that we're working on and I don't want to take three months off of reading, math or writing. We'll be official next year as Anna enters first grade and I need to file an affidavit with the state. Jack will be in preschool age-wise but is doing a few K level things, too.
After determining that there is too much out there to pick from for homeschool curriculum (a blessing and a curse!) we've finally decided on the following: continue with Singapore for math, change to Handwriting Without Tears for writing, continue reading with our phonics-based plan, use Sonlight's reader and read-alouds for the year, First Language Lessons for the Well Trained Mind, do the first year of Mystery of History (covers creation to about the time of Christ), read the Bible and focus on Proverbs, character training and some kid-size doctrine, start piano lessons for Anna and if we have any time left in our day we'll do some drawing, listening to some music and stories, read about some animals, plants and how our bodies work and a few other bonus activities on our 'wish list' like have an ant farm, do a little gardening, etc.. Oh, and we'll probably do a little PE for Anna with some other kids her age and maybe ballet again. Our ballerina loved it and it really did improve her coordination!
Just a glimpse into our school plans for those of you who are interested in that sort of thing!

Our Ballerina
Anna had her recital on Saturday night for her ballet class that she started in January. Although she started halfway through the class and was the youngest, she did a really good job at the show and really enjoyed it! She has no 'stage fright' and was excited by it all. This is a picture of her before we left for the show. The title of her performance was 'Flowers'.
